Movie Monday - HP7 Trailer!

I know this is a deviation from my normal music entries, but I admit to being a big movie watcher and a Harry Potter geek in particular, and the new trailer is too good to miss:

(You can watch it above, but I really suggest you go to the official site where it is bigger and brighter and even more beautiful)...

Sunday Sketching -

Last night I did the Hampton page on face proportions -

His breakdown is slightly different from what I've learned in the past, but very easy to remember - therefore, I tried to implement them a bit in my teeny purse Moleskine during my Sunday sketching today (these are pretty much 10  minute heads)... ...

(my practice heads were small - and hence, I found it surprisingly difficult to work larger when drawing from life. Will have to practice *that* now... It made an interesting difference in how I approached the placement of features in these initial attempts. Looking forward to doing more!)

Music Monday - Happy Solstice!

Happy first day of summer! (although you wouldn't know it given how chilly it still is here. We had to turn the heat on yesterday!)

Here is Loreena McKennitt's "All Soul's Night" (I know, I know - that's really in October, but for some reason I've always liked it more for the summer solstice than Samhain...) - one of my favorites of hers.

Here's hoping that it actually starts to *feel* like summer at some point. :-)

Succulent Saturday - Garden Incursions...

Our weather continues to be unseasonably cool and dampish. The results of this vary....

The raspberries, on the left, seem mostly unaffected (and a few are even getting rosy), while the currents and jostaberries (on right) are getting halfway ripe and falling off... :-(

The broccoli, cabbages and cauliflower seem fine (in raised bed) as do the impervious Jerusalem artichokes (along the back fence).

The kiwi vine is growing with great vigor! Up the house and even creeping over to strangle one of the bird feeders.

The strawberries are slowly , slooowly growing - actually picked my first ripe one today. And the 'square-foot' greens have totally enjoyed the cool weather, growing full and lush. Except in the bottom left corner. Despite several attempts of replanting, nothing has come up there. If you look closely, you may be able to discern why....

Apparently, this is my cat's new favorite sunning/rolling spot! The darn thing....

My daily figure studies from Michael Hampton continue -

Hello gesture and form! These are actually pretty addictive fun.

Monday Music - late for Graduation!

Yesterday, my baby graduated from high school... To commemorate, I am posting the final song of her favorite show - Glee:

(here is her very *own* ukulele - a graduation gift from one of her grandmothers..)

Here's the long, graduated walk... :-)

Happily done! (and so glad to see the boyfriend again. It's been 2 hours!)

Here's the Jr. High band director - her most influential teacher. Her desire to go into Music Ed stems directly from her experiences learning from him.

Yippee!!

The Week in Review -

It's been a busy-busy post-less week. For a brief overview, I give you a lovely little, belated, sorta-art-related Music Monday ditty (thanks to dinahmow)(I do love me some cut paper!) -

I spent the last week painting a new version of my steampunk Oz piece for an alumni show at BYU -
(I was never quite happy with the version I did last year. I think this one turned out better. So here's my WIP post from last week....)

It was also my baby's 18th birthday...
Cakes and celebrating has gone on all week! Next up - high school graduation...

And in other news, the studio-chicks have gotten much too big for their studio box!! (noisy, smelly things!)

So, happily! they are now out in the chicken coop, albeit in a rabbit hutch within the coop (so that the ornery big chickens don't take them out like the last batch of babies). Ornery big-chicken is still trying to peck at them from below, but they will remain safely above until they are large enough to fend for themselves...

In the interim, their heat lamp is like a night light so that I can see them out in the coop from the studio window. Which is nice for me, for although I am really happy to have them *outside* and have easy access to the scanner again :-), I do miss their darling peeping and chatter keeping me company.

Baby steps....

Figure Friday -

Finally getting a minute (in between the Oz repaint) to post Friday's life drawing -

Gestures here - 1 minutes to 5 minutes long....

10-20 minute poses... Our model had such long, lovely legs I opted to really exaggerate them in the second one....

Between 10 and 20 minutes each....

WIP Wednesday - multiples...

Working on multiple projects... In addition to my page-a-day figure studies,

I'm inching away on Greensleeves - value and color studies at this point....

...and a re-paint of my Oz piece from last year (which I was never satisfied with how it turned out).  Am trying a more limited, steam-punky palette this time around.. Hoping to finish it up in time to enter in into a big ol' Alumni show next week...

Working away!
