Sorta big cities - Fano

Spent the morning in the lovely, walled, seaside city of Fano, while waiting for the train to Bologna.

My favorite part about our brief walkthrough was all the 'hidden' courtyards scattered throughout the city full of old, terribly cool and abandoned architectural elements.

So many things were overgrown - like this roofless cathedral...

...or being put to alternate uses - like this window in the aforementioned abandoned cathedral, or the huge, sculptured, dry fountain that was doubling as a place to park your motorcycle...

...again with the ornamentation...

...and doorways!

Just catching up with the last couple of posts. The sculpture is breathtaking. I'm just going to have to visit Italy myself.

Thanks for taking the time to post your pics:¬)

I am just drinking my morning cup of coffee and enjoying my continuing virtual Italian holiday. I love the door way covered in creepers. Have to admit nearly spilled, said coffee, when I saw that fountain lady, in Bologna, and you say there are four similar. I quite see how people said they made them feel a little uncomfortable. LOL, that is some x-rated pose! Must admit have not seen anything quite like that at the bottom of a fountain before. I also love how the ruins are being used for other things, noting all the plants in pots on the window sill.

Forgot to say, how wonderful to see the posters with your illustrations on at the bookfair. Wonderful.

What an amazing fantasy world! I expect to see unicorns galloping around that courtyard. And the stonework-- so beautiful. Wow.

What a wonderful trip you have had and it must of been amazing to see such large posters of your work at the book fair. We have just got back from a week in Italy ourselves, its such a wonderful country.

I love the last picture of the vine covered door. It's neat how the green bits have worked their way in between the bricks. I wonder when that door was last opened. Old building are so much more interesting than new ones. I abhor geometric perfection. Buildings should be a bit skewed, a bit wavy, nicked and discolored here and there.

Thanks for the close-up on the ruins. I never tire of seeing how nature brings things down. Beautiful entropy.
