Sketchin' at the Faire - Part I

Made my other summer pilgrimage today to the Camlann Summer Festival. It's a lovely, small, wooded venue - which I have photographed several times over, so this afternoon I spent a good part of my time in my sketchbook - trying to capture moving targets.

(Master Payne - the traveling jongleur)

And as for other demonstrations, there were people with great big arrows.

And great big swords.

I was rather crushing on the blacksmith.

(Not in a hunky way, like PG's Middle of Nowhere blacksmith) -

But because of the very cool wrought iron detailing he adds with abandon to the things he is working on.

Kinda had to take *some* photos...

More tomorrow...

I am still disappointed there was no wimple. :0)
I don't think the leather aprons of smiths can have changed much over hundreds of years, by the looks of your chap; though the bonnet is interesting...

Love the detailing the blacksmith adds. It really adds charm and character. The event looks like fun. Thanks for stopping in. I haven't been able to get the other two books you suggested yet but I'm checking the library this week. Thanks for all the suggestions.

My brother always wanted to be a blacksmith. But instead he became...

A LUMBERJACK!
Leaping from tree to tree! As they float down the mighty rivers of...

...nah, just kidding. The sketch of Master Payne looks quite true to life. Let me know if you go again, I'll gladly escape to the 12th century to polish up old archery skills.

And now, back to church.

jennifer rose - sorry. But there are worse songs to have that happen with. :-)

PG - apparently that is fairly authentically 'period' (circa 1376). Many of the villagers wear them - although it's is the least attractive clothing item on in their line-up. Funny thing - we saw the blacksmith after dinner when he had taken much of the outer layers of costuming off - he has a shaved head with a big 'ol mohawk - so I guess in his case, head covering is essential for the part!

Vickie - let me know how you like those books.

Soozcat - this was the last weekend, unfortunately. Ends today (with a whimper in the rain, most likely).
