Sunday Sketching -

Moleskine drawing in church today. At Tom Kidd's suggestion I worked with a pen to avoid graphite smearing. A frequent Moleskine user friend recommended the Zebra F-301 -a ballpoint with a fairly light touch. I wasn't feeling brave enough to jump straight into faces and features with ink, so this week was a return to the-back-of-heads.

I bored relatively quickly of that. And feeling slightly adventurous in this new sketchbook, I tried a few scribbles in ink. The top pointy thing was something I dreamt last night - dreamt that I was drawing it. In detail. In ink. (That was a first - don't remember drawing in dreams before even if it was just a simple little thingy). It kind of freaked my daughter out a bit - who didn't think tentacled, multi-eyeballed things seemed quite appropriate for church for some reason.

Missing my pencil, and too sleepy to draw from life, I continued to tempt fate with smeary graphite and drew until church was over.... (Luckily, I am used to listening to things whilst I work, or I would feel terribly guilty over such distractions... :-)

More lovely sketches Tara, I like the second one with the starfish type creature and clam with eyes ... very science fictionish!

Your creatures are great! Pen was a good idea. I'm a bit leary of pen so I start in pencil then I might go over it in pen if I really like it. I've started doodling in church. I'll have to post some of those sometime.

And so the life of an illustration artist..what else would she do in such a relaxed enviroment.
Reminds me of when I was travelling in Europe the tourguides say when your tired and need some respite go into anyone of the numerous churches and sit awhile..can you imagine what you would have sketched had it been you!I rather like the second one..your style.

Yup, multi-thingy is totally inappropriate for church, keep up the good work LOL. What fun it is to see what you are up to. RE: rabbits chewing: every moment spent chewing on bunvention is a moment NOT chewing down the house.

Quite a delightful start to a new sketch book, but whilst at church! Shocking! There again quite often a sermon focuses the mind in ways we don't expect.
Best wishes as always

I often wonder how it must feel to have talent like that...my son can draw anything...like you, he has a talent...must get it from his father, he certainly doesn't get it from me! I love those ink drawings of yours, well done!

Hee hee, I hear ya with feeling much more comfortable with the old pencil. But wow, what a great job you did with the back of heads. Amazing how much feeling and expression you captured without utilizing facial features. You're really starting to get me inspired to make a mark in my moleskine It may happen someday.

Wonderful sketches! My art teachers always insisted I sketch with pen.
