Music Monday - The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

This song is factual (the wreck took place November 10, 1975) - but Gordon Lightfoot makes it feel like something out of myth.... This is a very moving video accompaniment...

Happy November to you...

I remember this. The loss of the ship, the search. My dad was a wreck diver on Lake Michigan in those days. The E Fitzgerald was a loss that brought home the fact that the "historic" ships he searched for was part of a current and ongoing story.

This song, when it came out, became an immediate favorite. Somehow... it pierces the illusion that myth is a distant part of the past.

The gales of November may come early again this year. May everyone stay safe.

It sank on my son's fourth birthday. You are right, his song was so haunting it was like it was born with the patina of myth. Sad and beautiful. Now I probably be hearing the song in my ear for days.

Thanks again for your card...lots of lovely comments as family noticed it( I propped it right up in the window over the kitchen sink... gives everyone a smile. Love those winged monkeys... youngest son calls his three kids THe Monkey Gang... when they get ready to go he calls out "Monkeys assemble!" and they come running! :-D
