Leap day -

Since the 29th of February only happens every four years, it seems appropriate to at least acknowledge it... To commemorate, I took a quick walk out in the yard in a bout of glorious February sunshine to see what is blooming at the very end of the month...

The violets have just started emerging in quantity. Since they are a pleasant, early, edible blossom (and huge Vitamin C- leaf content. Good in salads) I encourage their spread. I think I have at least 5 varieties in various parts of the yard.

The hellebores are fading away..

The pink and burgundy ones are my favorites. They provide such welcome color in the least effusive time of the year...

And the crocuses! The crocuses are out everywhere - golds, whites, lavenders and the deepest purple spread in drifts in beds all across the neighborhood. This is rather late for them, but it has been a colder winter than normal so I guess they are emerging more slowly.

Now that I'm back inside, the latest batch of storm clouds are rolling in 'grey and lowering'. But at least I have photographs of my crocuses glowing in the ephemeral sunshine to keep me company in the studio...

[Studio countdown: 2 covers 80% finished. Can I get them out by Saturday? 3 more to start immediately upon their completion].
