Sunshine and 'snow'...

We're having record-breaking or near-record-breaking high temperatures here at the end of May... (see that *hot* sun bursting through our Big-Leaf Maples? Indigenous to this part of the country - they truly have BIG leaves. Larger than your head. Larger than a dinner plate! Too big to be pressed in any of my existing flower presses even.)

For our un-airconditioned Pacific NW houses, this means one must close all the curtains, run all the fans and try not to move to energetically, or you will get much too hot!

Another option is to take a walk through the 'snow' that is currently falling from the cotton trees... (It *looks* like it ought to be cool, at least)

I believe it was about this time last year that I posted about our late-spring 'snow' season. I've still yet to come up with a better descriptor than 'air decorations'... Still open to suggestions!!!

I loved the juxtaposition of 'snow' and bright green, new growth...

Ah, thanks for that trip around the yard! It's no Italy, but it's much greener! ;)

The weather is really gone strange, isnt' it? It was so hot here in April when we moved, and now... cold and rainy. Then warm. Then more cold and rain... I loved the heat better. Enjoy the one you're experiencing right now, even it if gets a bit overpowering!

and you can walk barefoot in it, and not feel cold!

Thank you for these pictures, I love cottonwoods, and there are none around here, apparently. So I miss them. We had rain and cooler temperatures for 2 days, but now the sun has taken up residence again.

I forgot where I was when I saw your name and came here but it is my first visit to your blog.

I looked at your "big leaf" maple and it is also the first time I ever saw that and I thought I knew a little about trees. I will have to look into that speciman. Nice shots, by the way, of a difficult subject --- shooting into the sun.

I like your cottonwood snow. I also like your narrative.

I have been a photographer since 1953 when I was in Japan and used a 35mm Canon. I still use Canon cameras but they are all digital now.

Fabulous pictures. Yes, can you believe the temperatures! I thought it was suppose to go down a bit today, but I don't think it has! I don't have air conditioning either so I've got the spray bottle out for the dog!

What a ~cool~ contrast! Old man winter ~hicupped and down came that last bit of remaining snow!
I've just come in from doing several hours of gardening in the blazing sun so this post is so.o.o.
Cooling!I love sitting under the shade of the maple with the gentle breezes carressing my skin. hugs NG
