Aliens in Seattle?

On my way home from Kathleen's lovely studio (in the previous post), I happened upon this curiously obscure and mysterious little shop...

What in the world....? (or NOT in the world, as the case may be...?)

I tried to peer into the windows as I was stopped at a red light to see if I could determine *what* kind of store it was...

Not being an experienced space traveler myself, I wasn't sure if I *needed* matter reintegration or not...?

Despite their professions that they were safe to approach, I wasn't sure what to make of them...

Maybe they know more at the (thematic?) coffee shop across the street?

They do have a cool website (the Black Hole Starter Kit is my favorite item in their virtual store tour). And they appear to be a very clever 'front' for a national, non-profit organization that helps children with creative writing, rather than a nefarious gathering place for Trekkies...

What a curious little place, they must cause hours of fascinated consternation over the course of the day.

Looks like an interesting place to browse in. I'll bet there are a lot of things to write about in there.

Ah, yes, the Seattle 826 shop. I've never been in, but I have attended one of their benefit concerts.

"Black Hole Starter Kit"
*rofl*

Great discovery,
wonderful sense of humor and whimsy,
and knowing that it all serves a good cause makes it all the more enjoyable!

Thank you for sharing. :-)

Any store which offers "rocket parkin" must be worth a browse! And yay! for the creative encouragement.
Thanks for all this.

Awwww. And I thought it was a nefarious gathering place for Trekkies! Dang it!

Really funny. Over here from authorblog where sandi nominated you for post of the day.
It would have made a great "Odd Shot" too - see Katney's Kaboodle.

Fabulous - looks like a kin to the pirate shop in San Francisco for the same cause. To be permitted in the area where they wanted to open their tutoring center (free) and creative writing workshop for children they needed to sell something. So they sell pirate gear. Started by a writer - Dave Eggers - goes by the name of 826 Valencia. Wonderful organization.

Eggers' first book "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" is an amazing memoir of raising his younger brother (I think he was 17 at the time) and evading the grasp of the law who wanted to place the brother in a foster home after their parents died. Well worth reading.

check out this Ted talk - Eggers talking about how the pirate/tutoring shop started, others it's inspired, and a challenge to everyone to get involved... cool, funny, inspired and inspirational!
