Sketchin' at the Faire - Part III

I must admit however that my favorite part of festivals, sketching and people watching is the kids...

So many darling little people -

jesters, peasants, squires -

and knights in training -

Very much their own little selves. I love that young yet strong sense of identity and individuality-

-complete with sense of wonder and magic and infinite possibility attached....

(the animals are pretty darn fun too)

(ok, I drew *everything*. Smattering of the pages and pages of 5-10 minute sketches we did all afternoon shown above)

We ended the evening with a most wondrous dinner at the Bors Hede Inne - traditional, period fare served sans fork and sans plate (you do get trencher bread), and with some serenading by the innkeeper. Lovely, lovely day....

4.30pm is probably not the right time to read about mediaeval feasts...
If I manage to get to Canada next summer I'll try to time it for this event.Meanwhile, I enjoy from afar.

Love your pictures and sketches. It sounds like such a lovey way to spend a day finding inspiration! You're right, kids are the greatest. They seem to be just themselves at that moment. It's great.

Isn't that the best place for subject matter?
I have a Arte Y Pico Award for you at my blog. Come see...

Great pics of the children.
You have a storytellers eye for capturing the vignettes that make up the heart of the event.

What a great event tara. I feel the envy taking over me again:¬)

And what a perfect place to end the day. We have a number of meaderies here in Cornwall where you sit at thick wooden benches in old stone halls. You eat with your fingers but they do provide plates:¬)

That little fellow with his fun hat is so adorable, as is the little girl, not to forget the lamb. I love the composition of the lamb photo, the colors too.
