About a month ago, I was thinking about Valentine's Day themed images and started sketching some things with that loosely in mind in my Sunday Sketchbook -
I decided to take the lower left one a bit further -
what to have in her hand..?
How close to crop in?
Now that I can make such decisions for myself this month, my mind is reeling with the possibilities. How can I possibly decide? I am completely out of practice!

it's aways harder making decisions on your own work I find. Having said that this is really lovely, can't wait to see it finished :D
I love to hear the thinking process behind the drawing, thanks for sharing it here. This is a lovely picture and I do like the way you've done the hair.x
Lovely sketches.
I'd go with that pomegranate. x
I try to follow my gut feelings when making decisions. If I can't discern a stronger emotional inclination towards one version over another, I flip a coin. If I find that I'm not happy with the outcome of the coin flip, I've discovered that I really DO have a preference after all! If I'm OK with the coinflip decision, then I figure that: a) it was the right choice, after all or b) either way is as good as the other. You might even choose to do both versions and turn it into a series of paintings. I came up with this coinflip method because I found that I would sometimes spend so MUCH time deliberating what to do that I was torturing myself and sucking all the fun out of my work. I think of this method as a way to connect the 2 sides of the brain.
I love it. It needs some hearts or something to make it more of a Valentine picture.
Such a refined profile. Talk about contrasting pieces, Tara. You go from Baba to a beauty.
that is hard to choose. I like the picture with the pot but like the arch in the second picture. I wouldn't crop too much as I would want to see her dress. Really hard choices to make when they all look so nice :D
Lovely. I wish you could make me a dress like that!
I think I'd choose the pomegranate if I were you.
wonderful, wonderful! made me sigh with pleasure! really loved the mother and baby, such a sweet use of the heart.
my vote is for the pomegranate...
I like the pomegranate too, simply because of the rich symbolism attached to the fruit. Your maiden has an enigmatic look that goes well with the enigmatic symbolism of the pomegranate.
Just discovered your work and blog - stunning! What a lovely piece in progress, too!
I have to agree - the pomegranate. :)
Must add you to my blog roll....

These are lovely and gracious. A little pre-raphaelite too, love it!
