WIP Wednesday - Georgetown Atelier

 Life drawing session....

After lunch lecture - lots of examples of work from other Ateliers. So, so beautiful.....

Demo for us part-timers -

-and by then we had a scant half hour to try to block this thing in -

WIP Wednesday - more Georgetown Atelier:

Week #3. More life drawing.

Thought hard, and tried to apply the stuff we're talking about. (Must have worked some this week since I got an 'atta-boy' rather than an immediate draw over. So, yay.)

Another demo - this time on rendering techniques (that's a ways away for me though) -

Cast drawing block-in after lunch.

(I did get draw-over on *that*! :-)

And a little adventure on the way home - we got a flat mid-drive on the freeway. At rush hour. *THAT* was fun!

Good week though - I'm learnin' stuffs!

Foggy Figure Friday -

Foggy, sleep-deprived life drawing day....

Trying to implement some of the things from my mid-week Georgetown Atelier -

(-although learning new things *always* comes with a somewhat painful learning curve. ergh.)

In other news - the weather continues to swing rather manic-depresssively -

Today's version was full of thick thick fog....

Very atmospheric, but chilly and damp...

Is winter seeming particularly long to you this year?

WIP Wednesday - Georgetown Atelier

Second week at the Georgetown Atelier. First half of each session is life drawing -

Trying to quickly block things in...

Being critiqued and drawn-over. *Incredibly* helpful! Working on artistry and nuance...

(It's actually a pretty big group. I think there were 15 of us there today. Only 3 of which are part time).

In the afternoon, we did some cast drawing.

 Quickie block-in.

Slightly longer rendering. Trying so hard to *see* things... better!

Music Monday - Unicorns (Sunset in Seattle)

They say the liminal times of day are thresholds to the thinning of veil between us and....other....
Dawn and sunset can be such thresholds or doorways.

(You can see the Seattle skyline across the lake on clear days like these).

Things feel a bit surreal. Like you can almost taste the color of the failing light.

(You can also see the Space Needle barely hovering over the tree line -just left of center).

...That you can almost reach through our generally solid mundane existence and catch a glimpse of Faery or something else not 'here'?

Julie Tabor sings of this or something similar in her rather otherworldly "Unicorns":

Sunday Sketching -

In my 5x8 sketchbook...

And drawn last night - a bit of 'fan art' sketching. Of Tybalt, a Cait Sidhe King-of-Cats, from Seanan McGuire's October Daye series (which is an awesome bit of Urban Faery/Private Dectective genre goodness).

Succulent Saturday - frost on frost

It doesn't get below freezing often in the Pacific Northwest -

-but this week is especially chilly at night -

(mid-20s every night!)

And not really getting above freezing during the day -

- and given our relative humidity, our frost is frosting!

Am hoping my more tender, temperate plants aren't unduly damaged....

WIP Wednesday - Georgetown Atelier

Yesterday, I attended my first session as a part-time student at Georgetown Atelier - A friend and I decided to do this together - attempting to fill in some holes in our art education -

Started with  structural studies -

- and some life drawing -

Our instructor did draw-overs -

- showed us his method of sharpening charcoal pencils -

Did demos of structural drawing -

- Plus showed us a number of examples of lovely lovely block ins....

(I want to draw like him when I grow up...)
