Divinity

The following is the first in a series of art-flash fiction collaborative pieces that I will be doing with fabulous author Lisa Mantchev to go along with this painting (which made its debut last night at Krab Jab Studio's DIVINITY show):

One for sorrow, two for mirth… The Sisters count the crows and they know all you have done. The birds gather the secrets up with the bugs and the berries and the carrion flesh, delivering them to the girls who live beyond the trees and deep in the thicket. Hair bramble-combed, garments moth-knitted, they stroke midnight feathers and divine your future.
Their knowledge comes with a price.
No two prices are ever the same.
Leave your silver and gold behind; mere coin cannot buy your future.

...Stay tuned for future installments....

Succulent Saturday - Art Open

Tonight was Krab Jab's "Divinity" art show (in which I have a piece) open.

There was a fun, eclectic mix of Divination-themed art  -

I felt in very good company - nestled here next to David Thierree and Heather Hudson-
(you can read about the various pieces of work and their artists on Krab Jab's blog).

 There was a full-house turn out -

And fortune tellers! This gal reads stones -

 -and this gal reads bones!

She (Sindy Todo) and Terese Nielsen invented "Spikomancy" -

 - which those attending got to try out, and see their fortunes via railroad spike. :-)

A number of the artists were in attendance. Here is Kree Arvanitas by her painting -

Margaret Organ-Keen and her awesomely decorative kootie-catcher -

Echo and Lazarus Chernik both had work in this show-

Intriguing sculptural collage from  Yvette Endrijautzki-

Lovely tarot card from Erick Lingbloom -

Dramatic oracular imagery from Heather Hudson-

One of my favorite pieces of the night was Drew Tucker's soft plushy Haruspicy (reading animal entrails :-).

It was a fun night (thanks again to Julie Baroh for a great show!)

Krab Jab Show - Opening this Saturday

This Saturday is the open for Krab Jab's 'Halloween' show, with its Divination theme.

My Crow Girls piece will be hanging there ("One for Sorrow, Two for Mirth..."). I haven't adjusted the final color scan yet, so you just get to see the drawing here - but you can see it in living color if you come. Plus me - I'll be there as well.

If you're in the area, come see!

Figure Friday -

Another WIP - for a Halloween show - I've always been intrigued by the poem "Counting Crows", and thought it'd be fun to explore this theme -

I've also loved Charles de Lint's imagery of 'crow girls' - so thought I'd combine the two.

Lots to do!
