February Recap -

There has been so much going on - since mid-January in fact, that I've kind of given up on catching up in any comprehensive way, so I'm just going to post an overview or two. This one of the whirl-wind that was February....

It started with Greg Spalenka's Alla Prima workshop (which I did have time to document here).

This was quickly followed by the coterie of French artists coming to town - the first event with them being their gallery open at Krab Jab Studio -

- immediately followed by Virginie Ropar's one-day workshop for TLCWorkshops.

Greg Spalenka came to town, and Krab Jab Studio hosted his Artist As Brand TLCWorkshop.

All the above artists, and *more* were all guests at MythicWorlds (I was the 'artist wrangler - acting as liason for all of their mini-workshops for the convention).

All in all, it was a crazy-busy month - full of art, artists, learning and good times. Still recovering from it all.

Faerie III Open!

This weekend was the open for the Faerie III art show
(which I curated again this year).
 (sculpture by Wendy Froud)

The studio was filled with beautiful art
(You can click any of these photos for a larger view. You can also see the full show catalog here) -

 - and sparkly faerie ambiance.

A nice showing of participating artists were in attendance (shown here: Mark Winters, Sara Betsy Winters, Amy Brown and Emily Fiegenshuh.)

In addition to the visual art and ambiance, we had Betsy Tinney on the cello.

Mid-way through the evening, we had an 'artist/curator talk' where we discussed the pieces  we created and our feelings about the Realm of Faerie.

There was quite a crowd - from young to old - enjoying the art offerings.

(I even think there might have been a few fae who came to check things out).

And of course, there was a faerie feast.

(One of the guest artists, Cory Godbey, posted an interview with me about the show on Muddy Colors here).

It was a lovely evening for all -

And some of the faerie paintings are going to new homes to enchant new owners.

The show is up through April 4th. Go check it out in person!

WIP Wednesday

Last summer, I drew this in Donato Giancola's TLCWorkshop -

I started the painting, but didn't get very far. But with Krab Jab Studio's Faerie III show coming up (the one I'm curating), I figured I'd better painting *something*, so I pulled this one out again.

I blew it up another 50%, and changed the color palette -

Dabbled in some other mediums - in this case, Pearl X metallic pigments.

(Look closely - you can see the sparkles!)

And this is how she ended up.
Fairie Masque. Mixed media on paper.

Music Monday - Faun

With the Faerie III open this upcoming weekend, I've been listening to fae-ish music. This one (Diese kalte Nacht) by Faun.

Krab Jab Open!

This month's art open at Krab Jab Studio features a group of artist friends from Brittany, France.

There were many very very beautiful sculptures from the incomparable Virginie Ropars.

Beautiful graphite pieces from Olivier Villoingt.

Gorgeous pieces augmented with gold leaf from Yoann Lossel.

And then my camera died before I could continue to document the remainder of the artists - but go see the work of David Thierree, Alice Dufeu, and Bastien Lecouffe Deharme on the Krab Jab site. Truly beautiful work.

Yoann, David and Virginie gave a charming Artist's Talk - telling of life, art and inspirations.

(The wizard behind the curtain - the magnificent Julie Baroh).

(A close up of one of Virginie's gorgeous sculpts).

One of Yoann's small pieces... I may, or may not have *cough* bought this little jewel of a painting......

If you're in the area, go see this show! Or better yet, go meet them at MythicWorlds this upcoming weekend!

Succulent Saturday - Gallery Open

The fabulous Krab Jab Studio is hosting a solo show for the also fabulous Terese Nielsen this month.

The open was well attended with fans and collectors.

 Delicious treats.

Lots of schmoozing with Terese and others.

 Tarot cards were read.

Terese spoke about her art, and inspiration for this show - which was a lovely mix is past work, studies and new pieces created just for this.

(the power behind the curtain :-)

I may or may not have bought this preliminary sketch.....

Succulent Saturday - Toby Froud!

Krab Jab Studios hosted a fabulous night with the immensely talented Toby Froud.

We got to watch a screening of his short puppet film, Lessons Learned (as well as a viewing of the always awesome Labyrinth).

Toby got to show off his amazing puppets from his film...

...visiting and chatting with friends new and old...

Admired his very very beautiful puppets....

Thanks so much Julie Baroh/Krab Jab for hosting! Such a lovely night.
