Draped/costume day -

After being out of town for the son's wedding and missing a couple of weeks, felt like I had to work to remember how to *draw*, but it was good to be back at it.

Couldn't post yesterday as my computer was all disconnected and in the process of moving from old studio to new studio...  Had a fun costumed model to draw this time (although it was a bit hard trying to get all that coat detail in!)

Figure Friday - Back to Life Drawing

Starting Life Drawing back up again this week -

(after our summer hiatus, I felt pretty darn rusty, but it was nice getting back into it again).

Our model wore beach-wear as a last hurrah to summer (and ironically, it was probably the warmest day we've had yet this year). Listened to lots of Beach Boys and Isreal Kamamawiwo'ole for ambience. :-)

I looked for the ducklings today, but did not see them. I did see this cute couple (I SO want a banty, blue cochin hen...)

...as well as this gaggle of red-hatted, purple wearing darlings (there are  several more just out of frame). Cute flocks all around! :-)

Figure Friday - Renaissance day

 It was draped/costume day at life drawing today...

 Had a fun time drawing all layery drapery...(15-20 minute poses here).

...while we listened to period soundtracks (Romeo and Juliet, The Virgin Queen, Tristan + Isolde, etc....)  Fun day! (1 hour pose).

It was draped-model week and our model brought a fabulously frothy costume ball-gown to wear..

Never mind drawing bodies! Just let me draw fru-fru-drapey-dresses!

Figure Friday - and brief computer update...

I'm going to attempt a blog entry on this crazy-slow old laptop and see if I can bear it... (the new laptop is still unusable - and Dell has yet to send me the shipping box to mail it to them) -

Draped model - life drawing day today... A couple of minutes of 5 second poses before gestures...

...A series of short poses, about 20 minutes each....

Lots of drapery about! Which was fun.

Now back to flowers and butterflies and the last few drawings for book #12....

Life Drawing -

Started today out with a couple of minutes of 5 second micro-gestures again - which continued to be awesome.

After those, everything else feels downright leisurely... :-)

It was draped model week again.
This pose, 40 minutes, drawn in charcoal.

Life Drawing -

Today was 'clothed figure' day at life drawing. I love this model - she has such long limbs and long, graceful lines to her (look at that neck! and profile!)

She reminded me a bit of Audrey Hepburn in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' - in feel, if not in actuality.

I've decided that my drawing-from-life ability is directly proportional to how well I was able to sleep the night before... (more sleep would be better!) I quit futzing with these long before I was satisfied with them, but that seemed to be about all the umph I had for detail this week...

Life Drawing

We've added a third week a month to the life drawing sessions I monitor. This additional week is for the Draped Figure (or costumed).

So today we did a series of short (20 minute) poses - focusing on drapery.

Our model was a hoot. Very lively. I think we all enjoyed her. (We have a nice group. We are averaging between 10-12 attendees per session. Lovely people).

Good session! Clothes were fun for a change.

Next week, however, back to the naked people. :-)
