Royal jewelry boxes...

My niece is turning four this week, and currently believes with all her heart that she *is* a princess. She is also fairly discriminating, and no longer is satisfied with "costume" jewelry - but wants REAL jewels...

When we lived back East, I used to haunt flea markets for treasures (such as old jewelry) which I remade into various things. We don't have the same kinds of 'old stuff' at old stuff prices out here on the West coast, so I had to kick the shopping/making-stuff habit, and thought this was a great venue to be able to get rid of the remnants of jewelry materials I still have. (And then there are the buttons. And the shells. And the antique postcards and old books...) Anyway - this is the result - 2 jewelry boxes encrusted with sparklies, (and then entirely filled with the jewelry that was still wearable), a jeweled mirror and picture frame. It was very fun to do and a nice break for one evening. Hopefully the niece will be pleased...

They are wonderful! I am illustrating a 'handbook' for young Princesses at the moment, should be just her thing. But it does emphasise the importance of diet, manners and posture, as well as pretty sparkly jewellery!

Thanks girls! PG - you've got to let me know when your book comes out! I'm sure she'd love a copy. It sounds perfect.
