Studio shot

Several people posted pictures of their clean and shiny studios for the first of the year. Mid-project, mine is NOT one of those... Especially since I have the materials for 2 books and 3 classes spread about, being constantly juggled depending on what day it is.

Taught the last class for this week this morning. Now, it is all *paint*!!! for the weekend! I got all the local color down this evening. This is the hard part for me - the transition from the 'easy', paint-by-number stage to the detail/value/noodling stage... It's fun once I get going, but the hump is hard to get over...

I love the way so many of us (painters) have similar desks - various little cups of paint, THINGS scattered everywhere- must be some kind of instinctual thing!
I am very interested in the concertina layout you've got there...

Oh - that's my 'color comp' for this book. Since so many of the characters repeat, and the the location is nearly identical, I am painting on them all concurrently - so it was too hard to have all these little loose color studies strewn about my desk. Had to figure out a way to be able to view them all at once. It's helping with consistency - as well as variety (I'm trying not to make them all 'feel' exactly the same...)

What an excellent idea! :)I was also interested in what you posted on Mayas blog about left and right hand bits of the brain. Explains why I'm here and not getting on with the Very Urgent commission I should be doing...

Ahhh...Tlc!
Brilliant idea with the handmade booklet for seeing all your ideas at once...would you mind if I tried the same thing with ideas for the layout of the book I am working on?
Could help me solve a lot of the problems I am having with the layout (as it is a bit messy at the moment)!

Maya - of course not. Isn't sharing workable ideas what this whole blog thing is about? :-) Hope all of your projects are going well.
