There is an article here regarding a high school art school who has been suspended - and potentially fired - for suggesting that some of his advanced students may benefit from live figure drawing classes (after the complaint of one parent)??!!??
I really don't understand our culture - which is so completely permissive on the one hand, and so terrified of *any* sort of 'offense' on the other.
From what is posted in the article, I can see no basis for any action against this teacher - and if this is accurate, it is pretty scary how reactionary of a precedent it may set. Read the article. Sign the petition if you feel moved to do so.

Hi Tara,
Needless to say, our culture is ignorant of art practices, figure drawing classes will eternally be a joke to outsiders. But in this case, it looks like it is more the result of academic politics. Sparked off by one irate parent, but still there's no reason why it had to esclate unless the school board let it. Just another example of poor leadership, in my opinion.

I've signed the petition to get the teacher reinstated. Being a teacher is such a minefield these days ... as you say, society is so permissive on the one hand and so inconsistently puritanical on the other. Or maybe it's just a case of a small number of people visiting their hangups on everyone else ...

It's quite shocking, isn't it? But you can bet this wouldn't happen in Europe.
