A perfect October day...

October continues to have some exceptionally fine days...

My back yard is intermittently filled with birds (depending on whether the cat is outside or not). My feeders are full of chickadees, juncos, house finches, nuthatches and stellar jays, who are stalked by the squirrels in hopes of sunflower seeds. The crows visit daily, but prowl the lawn instead of the feeders (pardon the photo quality - it was taken with my digital camera, through the glass door, while I was sitting inside at the computer - so kinda shaky with the zoom).

I had made my sketch quota for the week so for lunch I treated myself by taking a stroll around the gardens to pick greens and flowers to round out the Trader Joe's Sweet Potato Bisque I was heating on the stove (one of my current favorites). There is still plenty of sorrel and salad burnett as well as new baby spinach and arugula which I filled my bowl with, poured over the hot soup to wilt and then sprinkled with, in this case, broccoli and chive blossoms. Toast a couple of pieces of crunchy whole-grained buttered bread to dunk in in pieces, and you have a perfect autumn midday meal.

And THEN, my mailman rang the bell.

Hark! Another surprise package from a very sweet fairy. If you've been following this blog you know that several of us have put together an official blog to help facilitate fairy mailings (See the SOSF posts for further info), which is very fun, but for me, the real joy of SOSF is the sending or receiving a chatty postcard, a lovely artcard, a tiny package or a full-out parcel for no other reason than that you were thinking of this person (as this package was). We all could use more Secret Random Acts of Fairy Kindness, I suspect - so those are my favorite - both to send and to receive. I had to make myself finish up my quickly cooling soup before cutting into the package. I'm getting well-aquainted with customs forms and foreign postage. :-)

The package was a delight and tailored very nicely to my likes - dark chocolate (always good with me!), art pins, magnets and cards, a salmon grilling plank which I cannot wait to try and original art... *sigh* All tasty, arty, goodness - and very much appreciated. What a lovely day...

Dreamy Tara, you are the most deserving of 'fairy godmothers'! Love that you had fresh flowers in your soup, and crows to share it with. Thank you for being you!
