I have signed up to attend this:
It is an absolutely amazing sounding week of artartart with killer, top-of-their-field painters. Of the SciFi/Fantasy variety. A market I have always been drawn to, but instead, keep ending up painting fairy wings for seven year old target readers. Who like glitter.
I only ran across the existence of this workshop a few days ago (now that I can actually read things online again). After some deliberation - and trepidation - I took their last open slot. I now have to start working on a fantasy cover 'assignment' for this, in addition to the two twinkly fairy covers I am doing in June.
I am excited, but intimidated as all get out. (I suspect that this workshop's target demographic is not middle-aged, watercoloring, children's illustrators... I don't have a big-bosomed, metal-bikini-wearing, warrior chick anywhere in my portfolio...)
If I survive it all, I hope to come back transformed.
Maybe it'll be me wearing the metal bikini.

LOL, sounds terrific! I can't wait to hear all about it, and I know you'll take pictures, of the metal bikini too : ) And listen, you are uber talented and so super smart that you'll fit in anywhere.
You do realize that the last line of your post is begging... BEGGING I say... for me to break out Photoshop? :P
That sounds like a wonderful thing for you to do right now! Something for you, a nice creative challenge, pushing out of your comfort zone in a fun environment...
Have fun!
LOL! What an image I now have in my head (you mean you HAVEN'T got any big bosomed scantily clad girlys in your portfolio? I thought everyone had...)
It will be a welcome break from twinky fairies! And do I spy Boris Vallejo? Crumbs, that is top stuff!
Wow, how exciting! I am sure you'll come back inspired and it'll influence your work in some way.
P.x
Way to go for it Tara!!! I'm so proud of you. Metal bikini and all.
It *is* exciting to throw yourself out into the void and take a chance! Ya-hoo! :) Congratulations!
Just what you need ,after all those Fairy Chronicles. And remember, after this class, you'll have a new kind of portfolio and maybe even a new direction.
(If you DO go for the bikini, keep some calendula cream handy!)
I think you need to dust off the metal bikini.
So many of the kids I taught were into the Japanese style of illustration - I'm more of a Tara Chang Arthur Rackham fan myself....
I think traditional illustration has much to recommend it....
So glad you have reentered the blogosphere - I know you have been very busy.
(chuckling) Yep, time to don the Power Goddess Outfit - sounds like it'll be a wonderful adventure!
Yay! You can do it, Tara, I know it!
I look at all the blackberry brambles around here and think of great visuals (which, of course, I cannot draw). Something like a blackberry witch, with beautiful dark-stained lips and leaf-green eyes, but bristling with thorns like a vegetable porcupine.
I can't wait either to hear about it!! I think you'll hold your own! You have a creative imagination that's what counts the rest comes from practice and training your mind to look at things in another way. Your quite capable!!
