Vicarious Spring...

Since it's not happening *here*.... I'm going to post a bunch of pictures that I took in Butchart Gardens last month. And possibly (probably) gripe a bit.

We are having the overall coldest spring in 30 years.. Average temps are around 54 degrees, where normally the average is 68 degrees.

Whereas parts of the country are having record heat waves (including Amherst, MA, where I am headed in a few days), we are having the coldest first week of June since 1894....

(I might melt when I get there.... The sudden contrast in heat and humidity might do me in...)

Although the sunshine may do me good. The ongoing drizzly grey here is starting to become completely depressing. (Which I've already griped about on the food/garden blog I contribute to.)

In the meantime, I still have *loads* of things to do to prepare for my impending venture...

Plus help plan my daughter's 'sweet sixteen' birthday party-

-and my son's graduation from High School on Friday...

At least I won't have to worry too much about the yard and gardens while I'm gone - it's been terribly wet, and nothing is growing (including the weeds).

The chicken coop is finished - pending painting, and the chooks* will come 'home' on my return.

Gripe over. Here's hoping for sunshine and a bit of spring, before it officially becomes summer....

the weather can realy affect my mood here, cold and wet is misery and sunshine has me running round outside full of glee.
the resting kitty on the laptop is apose my cats often do, i think its because the cooling fan emits warm air just at that point? cats aren't daft!!

I agree this wet gloomy weather is a drag! My fingers are crossed there is sun on it's way. I'm so excited for you going to your illustrator workshop. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Wow, I just can't imagine the cold weather still lingering anywhere when we are experiencing so much heat here.
What BEAUTIFUL photos. And your kitty from the previous post is to adorable for words. =o)
Have a great time on your trip.

I just heard that we've had the coldest first 10 days of June on record. I covered all the heat vents during a warm snap in May and had to uncover them all again. You have a very exciting next couple of weeks! Sweet 16 is usually not a big deal in Canada (my son turns 16 at the end of Oct). What is the reason for celebrating age 16 especially?

Beautiful photos, Tara! It was nice to be able to see what spring is supposed to look like.

I just read that this is the coldest June in Washington since 1897!

Good luck with everything you have to do, and I hope you have a great trip too.

Gorgeous photos! The workshop you're attending sounds like so much fun. Good luck!

And the weather in these parts? I simple can't believe it. I resisted for a long time, but ended up turning on the heat for fear my daughters hamster would go into hibernation.

These garden pictures are just heartstoppingly gorgeous. We were there in spring and I remember it being just like this. Living in the land of dry heat, I can't help but envy you your mid-50's temperatures. What a week for you; a sweet sixteenth AND a high school graduation - two benchmark events. Wishing you a safe trip to Amherst where hopefully the weather will be a bit warmer for you.

Yummy photos, they look like paintings. We are mostly warm here on California's central coast, but there's a fire in the nearby hills, the downside of hot! My son graduated from High School last week. It is exciting, actually. Have fun at your workshop.

I'm so sorry your spring is so miserable......reminds me of English summers sometimes.
you will be glad to get away on your trip.
Studio Kitty does not look as if she has an excess of cortisol.....
Cats know exactly how to relax
