Krab Jab Open!

This month's art open at Krab Jab Studio features a group of artist friends from Brittany, France.

There were many very very beautiful sculptures from the incomparable Virginie Ropars.

Beautiful graphite pieces from Olivier Villoingt.

Gorgeous pieces augmented with gold leaf from Yoann Lossel.

And then my camera died before I could continue to document the remainder of the artists - but go see the work of David Thierree, Alice Dufeu, and Bastien Lecouffe Deharme on the Krab Jab site. Truly beautiful work.

Yoann, David and Virginie gave a charming Artist's Talk - telling of life, art and inspirations.

Succulent Saturday - Gallery Open

 The fabulous Krab Jab Studio is hosting a solo show for the also fabulous Terese Nielsen this month.

 The open was well attended with fans and collectors.

 Delicious treats.

 Lots of schmoozing with Terese and others.

 Tarot cards were read.

 Terese spoke about her art, and inspiration for this show - which was a lovely mix is past work, studies and new pieces created just for this.

Krab Jab open - A Peculiar Alchemy, Tea Party!

I did get to help out with the 'treats' for this open. Given that the art is fairly Victorian in theme and feel, we opted to go with a tea party theme. 

Also incorporating the show's title, we made sure the various elements were peculiar combinations of flavors -

 Such as the Salted-Honey-Lavender-Shortbread, and the Almond-Apricot scones with Lemon Curd.

 Here - Cheddar-Chives scones with Bay Laurel Clotted Cream.

 There was a tower of meringue bites! Cardamon-Rose, Spicy-Chai, and Chocolate-Mint flavored.

 The table was decorated with springy-things - Sweet Cicely fronds, moss, violets, tulips, camelias, etc...

 - as well as a collection of Taber's Victorian Christmas cards, mounted on antique photo boards...

 Tea was a peculiar combination of Hibiscus and Passionfruit and other yummy herbs.

Delicious and beautiful. Lovely evening overall.

Krab Jab open - A Peculiar Alchemy

Saturday evening, I got to attend a very lovely gallery open, named A Peculiar Alchemy at Krab Jab Studios -

 This one was particularly special to me, given that it was for Norman and Tory Taber - my sister and her husband. :-)

 I may be a bit biased, but thought this an exceedingly lovely show - a charming mix of paintings, photo-collage and assemblages.

 There were interesting, quirky Victorian items decorating the studio (the Victorian Tea Party/food table will be featured in the following post).

 Norman's photo-collages (in hand-made frames of reclaimed cherry wood), and 'boxes'.

 All the art is tagged, like Victorian Cabinet of Curiosities specimens.

It was a dramatically beautiful day.

There was a nice and steady turn-out -

It was truly a lovely evening and an even more stunning show. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and go see it in person. If you're not local, at least look at the online catalog. It's a treat!

WIP Wednesday - the Faerie Art Show

 This year, I curated the Faerie Art Show for Krab Jab Studio.

Happily, a number of top notch artists agreed to participate. 

I also helped physically lay out the show, and 'decorate' the studio to make it more faerie-licious.

The turn-out was brisk, despite impending inclement weather.

There was lots of fabulous art - here from Sheila and Omar Rayyan.

Gorgeous graphite from Jean-Baptiste Monge - along with many many other pieces. (You can see the online catalog here).

Along with the original art, there are books and prints - so many visual delights!

The other thing I worked on was the snack table - a faerie feast!

- an assortment of dark delectables.

- and goblin fruits. :-)

The crowning centerpiece of the entire spread was this overflowing basket of incredibly realistic meringue mushrooms (made by an uber-talented friend of mine).

Aren't they gorgeous? (The looked realistic enough that no one would eat them until I labeled them).

This tiny art patron got her handful of goblin fruit and faerie mushrooms and staked out a section of floor to enjoy a picnic.

Lots of friends came to support - despite a bleak and snowy evening.

Thanks again to head poohbah, the illustrious Julie Baroh, for facilitating all things Krab Jab.

It was a lovely night, and even a more lovely show.

You still have a couple of weeks to see it. This weekend, it will be at FaerieCon West - along with a half dozen of the show's artists.
